Bret Michaels traded in his cowboy hat for a banana mask on “The Masked Singer.” The Mechanicsburg native and Poison frontman was unveiled as the mysterious Banana on the April 22 episode of the popular Fox series. The show is a “who sung it,” where a crew of panelists try to figure out what celebrity is singing behind a mask. The singers have their performance voted on by a studio audience, with the singer who has the least amount of votes being eliminated and having their identity revealed.
It wasn’t Michaels’ night, sadly. The ‘80s rockstar lost two head-to-head matches, the first to the Rhino and the second to the Kitty. He took the opportunity on the show, however, to change up his usual sound, performing both Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” and The Commodores “Brick House.”
Michaels was a favorite for the Banana’s identity for several episodes now and among bookies. Still, he did manage to fool panelist and comedian Ken Jeong who thought the Banana was actually Brad Paisley.
When the episode finished, Michaels appeared on the show’s after party episode on Fox where he talked about the difficulties of performing as the Banana. There was also a recap of past guesses as to who was behind the Banana mask, including Larry the Cable Guy, Billy Ray Cyrus and Ed Helms.
